Mobvoi’s Ticwatch Series and Huami’s Amazfit watches compete fiercely for domination in the affordable smartwatch niche market. Both vendors originate from China and offer watches with features that are affordable without scrimping on quality.
Mobvoi Ticwatch GTH Pro is the latest addition to Ticwatch’s Series. This watch is purposefully priced below <$100 to give budget-conscious buyers a quality watch without having to break the bank. This watch is Mobvoi’s Response to Amazfit Bip Series and low-end watches in GTS/GTR series like Amazfit GTS 2 mini, GTS 2e, and GTR 2e.
Mobvoi Ticwatch GTH Pro: Review
Ticwatch GTH Pro leans towards health features as it added a second heart rate sensor to give you detailed insights into your cardiac and arterial health. The company partnered up with a heart health specialist company, CardieX, to add nuance to heart rate tracking. The watch with the help of two photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors and advanced algorithms can track heart rate with better accuracy.
Newly added features like ‘eCAP‘ or exercise capacity, ‘HSX‘ (or heart stress index), and ‘Arty Age‘ are going to help you improve your exercise and diet.
Other than improved heart rate accuracy, the watch provides more of the same health features as in the original GTH watch. It includes body temperature, respiratory rate, sleep, stress, and SpO2 monitoring.
Ticwatch GTH Pro can be used to track runs, bike rides, and hikes. Instead of an onboard GPS sensor, it leverages the GPS on your phone to keep track of your progress and map your route. There are almost 14 pre-loaded sports activities on the watch.
In the design department, it is an unapologetic copy of the Apple Watch and nothing has changed in the user interface. It is powered by RTOS-an open-sourced smartwatch platform known for its unimpressive performance and lack of features. However, it is more power-efficient than Apple’s WatchOS and Google’s Wear OS. Apart from the GTH series and a couple of other watches, Mobvoi is a strong partner of Google and Qualcomm with hardware at par with Samsung and Fossil Watches.
For a smartwatch, it features a pretty large display at 1.55-inch. However, our initial excitement subsided when we learned that it features a TFT display instead of an OLED display. TFT displays have come a long way but are still not as good as OLED displays in terms of color reproduction and viewing angles.
In terms of smartwatch features, RTOS allows GTH a little more than push notifications from smartphones. It can set alarms, has a few selections of watch faces, and a couple of other handy features.
The battery life is impressive at 10 days on a single charge. But as complained by most early users, charging the watch is an excruciatingly painful process with the proprietary charging dock.
The Ticwatch GTH Pro is a great deal at its price and is the best watch in its category. If you are looking for an affordable watch with health features, Mobvoi Ticwatch GTH Pro is the one to get.
