My Fitbit Versa 3 was acting up lately, and it started right after I updated to the latest firmware. The watch started freezing on Wi-Fi syncing for the first time and I was able to recover it by a soft reset or restarting the watch. However, the problem refused to go away.
Factory resetting the Versa 3 is the only solution that worked for me. I was unable to figure out the cause, but more often than not an unresponsive Fitbit is mainly due to software glitches.
In this guide, I will show you how to reset Fitbit Versa 3 using both the soft reset and factory reset methods. These methods would work for Versa 2 as well.
How to Restart Fitbit Versa 3: Soft Reset
To soft reset Fitbit Versa 3, press and hold down the button on the side for at least 10-15 seconds until the watch restarts and the Fitbit logo appears on the screen. You will have to wait for roughly 30 seconds for Versa 3 to reboot.
Also, you can shut down the watch from the Settings. However, when your watch is frozen or unresponsive, you cannot access the settings to shut down the watch. The only option you have is to manually turn it off and restart using the side button.
How to Reset Fitbit Versa 3: Hard Reset
You can factory reset Versa 3 from the watch setting options or by manually pressing the side button. The first one is more convenient but when your Fitbit gets stuck on a screen, frozen or unresponsive, the button reset is the only solution.
Let’s go through all three methods.
Method 1: From the Watch
- Swipe left from the main screen and find the Setting icon (gear)
- Tap on the ‘Settings‘, and ‘tap on About Versa 3‘ from the menu that appears
- Scroll down until you find ‘Factory Reset’. Tap on it and confirm the notification that follows.
You have factory reset the watch to factory defaults. All your data, including settings and preferences, will be erased now.
Method 2: Using the button
If your watch is unresponsive, you can’t use the above-mentioned options. In this case, you can use the button to hard reset the watch. Just follow these steps:
- Press and hold the button on the side of the Versa 3 for at least 10-15 seconds until the watch restarts and the Fitbit logo appears on the screen.
- Release the button for a second or two on the logo screen, and press and hold it again until to feel a strong vibration this time.
If you have made it this far, the factory reset is currently being performed on your watch. You can now set it up again or can gift it if that is your reason to reset the watch.
Final Words:
Hopefully, this post was able to help you reset your Fitbit Versa 3. Mine worked like a charm after the factory reset.
Again, I would recommend you should always perform the soft reset or restart Fitbit first before you go for the hard reset.
