Your privacy matters. This page explains what information SmartwatchCrunch collects when you visit, why, who else is involved, and the choices you have. I’ve tried to keep it in plain English.

Who I am

SmartwatchCrunch (smartwatchcrunch.com) is owned and operated by Shahryar Amin, based in Canada. For anything about your privacy or your data, email [email protected].

The short version

  • You can read SmartwatchCrunch without creating an account or giving me your name or email.
  • Like most websites, the site uses cookies for analytics and advertising. You can control these through the privacy settings on the site and in your browser.
  • If you comment or contact me, I use what you send only to reply or to show your comment. I don’t sell it.
  • Your personal information is never used to train AI or fed into the AI tools I use for news monitoring.

Information I collect

Comments

If you leave a comment, the site collects what you type in the comment form (name, email and comment), plus your IP address and browser details to help detect spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your name and comment are.

WordPress may check your email address against the Gravatar service to show your profile picture if you have one. Gravatar’s privacy policy applies to that service.

Contact form and email

When you use the contact form or email me, I receive your name, email address and whatever you write. I use it only to reply to you. I don’t add you to a mailing list and don’t share your message with anyone without your permission.

Server and security logs

Like every website, the servers that run SmartwatchCrunch automatically record basic technical information about each visit: IP address, browser type, the pages requested, the referring page, and the date and time. This is used to keep the site secure, block attacks and spam, and fix technical problems.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device so it can remember something about your visit. SmartwatchCrunch and its partners use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:

  • Essential: keeping the site secure and working properly
  • Analytics: understanding which pages people read, so I can improve the site
  • Advertising: showing ads, and measuring and personalizing them

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can change your advertising choices using the privacy options shown on the site. Blocking cookies won’t stop you reading the site, although you’ll still see ads; they’ll just be less personalized.

Services I use

These companies process some data on my behalf or when you interact with their features. Each has its own privacy policy.

  • Google Analytics measures traffic: how many people visit, which pages they read, how they found the site, and what kind of device they use. The data is stored on Google’s servers and used only for statistics. You can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Cloudflare delivers the site quickly and protects it from attacks. It processes visitors’ IP addresses and technical data to do so, and hides email addresses from spam bots.
  • Wordfence is a security plugin that records IP addresses and visit details to block malicious traffic and login attempts.
  • Amazon Associates. SmartwatchCrunch earns commissions through Amazon’s affiliate program. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set cookies to record that the visit came from this site. Amazon’s privacy notice applies on its website. See the Affiliate Disclosure.
  • Embedded content. Articles may include embedded videos, posts or other media from sites like YouTube or X. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you’d visited the other site, which may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction, especially if you’re logged in there.

Advertising: Mediavine

SmartwatchCrunch works with Mediavine to show ads. The following section is Mediavine’s standard disclosure.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

How long I keep information

  • Comments are kept for as long as they’re published on the site.
  • Emails and contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, and then deleted when no longer needed.
  • Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics’ retention settings.
  • Security logs are kept for a short period and then deleted automatically.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. Wherever you are, you can email [email protected] to ask what information I hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. I’ll respond within 30 days.

Canada

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask to see the personal information held about you, ask for corrections, and withdraw your consent to its use. If you’re not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

European Union and United Kingdom

Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the right to be informed, to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and rights related to automated decision-making. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Where required, advertising and analytics cookies are only used with your consent, which you can change at any time through the site’s privacy settings.

California and other US states

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended, and similar laws in other US states, you can ask what personal information is collected about you, ask for it to be deleted or corrected, and opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. Use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link at the bottom of any page, or email me.

Children’s privacy

SmartwatchCrunch is not directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, email me and I’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy
