Best Smartwatch With Wifi 2023

Smartwatches with Wifi take you one step closer to the standalone experience. You don’t have to haul your phone all the time as you can get all the important notifications right on your wrist.

You can even make calls and send texts, given your phone remains connected to the Wi-Fi, even if it’s not in the Bluetooth range.

Also, you can stream music on your favorite platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, and Pandora), or can listen to the radio.

So, Wi-Fi on a smartwatch is a very practical feature that would enrich your experience.

We have curated smartwatch which has Wi-Fi connectivity, some have cellular connectivity too, to help you make the most out of it.

Top Pick:

Apple Watch Series 6 is hands down the best smartwatch to employ Wi-Fi connectivity on a watch to the full extent. But unfortunately, it pairs only with iPhones and is very expensive. If you are an iPhone user, you can opt for affordable options like Apple Watch Series 5, Series 4, or Special Edition.

For Android users, Samsung Galaxy Active 2 and Ticwatch Pro 4G are good alternatives. We would personally cast our vote for Ticwatch Pro 4G. However, if it feels too chunky or heavy, you can guess by specs given, better go with Galaxy Active 2.

Top Smartwatches with Wi-Fi:

Two Minute Review:

Ticwatch E2 is a practical watch that may not be the most powerful Wear OS watch around, but it would get the job done. This watch is dirt cheap when compared to other watches on this list, and yet it features all the practical features.

Let’s not beat around the bush.

The watch has got Wear OS, and that makes it the cheapest WearOS smartwatch with Wifi connectivity.

With Wear OS on board, you get access to some of the most popular apps like Strava, Spotify, Messenger, Google play music, Messenger, Dexcom, Google maps.

It also has Google Assistant for voice commands. I kid you not; it works smoothly though not as fast as Siri on the Apple watch.

Wifi Connection makes it easy to transfer data between the watch and wearable device, and also takes you one step closer to a standalone experience.

Ticwatch’s two limitations for any meaningful use of Wifi is its slow, outdated processor: Snapdragon Wear 2100. Plus, The small RAM and Storage capacity. But don’t get me wrong, it is still enough for run-of-the-mill chores.

You can get important notifications on the watch when your phone is out of Bluetooth range and can control IoT devices over the Wifi connection.

Garmin Venu

Garmin Venu

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: No
  • Size: 43.2
  • Weight: 46.3g
  • OS: Garmin OS
  • Music: 500 songs
  • Display: 1.2-inch AMOLED | 390 x 390 resolution
  • Always-on Display: Yes
  • Battery Life: 5 days battery life
  • GPS: Yes, Plus GLONASS and Galileo
  • NFC: Yes (Garmin Pay)
  • Water and dust resistance: 5 ATM rated
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wifi, ANT+
  • Sensors: Garmin Elevate heart rate sensor, Barometric altimeter, Compass, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Thermometer, Pulse ox

Two Minute Review:

Having Wi-Fi connectivity on a Garmin smartwatch is peculiar as the brand has always made practicality its top priority over everything else. Garmin is first and foremost a sports and fitness-focused brand.

And yet, it failed to escape the temptation to release a flashy watch of its own. Apple and Samsung have raised people’s expectations too high and now even brands like Garmin and Suunto have to follow the lead.

Coming back to the Wi-Fi feature on Garmin Venu, you won’t be able to get the best out of it. First, it has limited third-party apps as compared to  Watch OS, Wear OS, and even Tizen.

Surely, you can stream music on Deezer, Spotify, and Amazon Music. Or, can respond to notifications and can pay via Garmin Pay. But that’s the end of the line.

Fitbit Versa 3

Fitbit Versa 3

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: No
  • Size: 40.5 mm Version
  • Weight: N/A
  • OS: Fitbit OS
  • Display: 1.58-inch display AMOLED / 336 x 336 /1000nit
  • Always-on Display: Yes

  • Battery Life: Up to 6 days (Smartwatch Mode) | 12 hours with continuous GPS
  • GPS: Yes, Plus GLONASS

  • Voice Assistant:  (Google Assistant and Alexa)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wifi
  • Sensors: SpO2, Optical heart rate sensor, Gyroscope, Altimeter, 3-axis accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Vibration motor

Two Minute Review:

The Wi-Fi connectivity on Fitbit Versa 3 is a little better than on Garmin Venu. Both smartwatches are from hard-core fitness brands that shy away from compromising some of the fitness features for an enriched smartwatch experience.

Fitbit Versa 3 is in essence a health watch that woos its community by conceding some smartwatch features. For instance, you can stream music over a Wi-Fi connection, can use built-in Google Assistant and Alexa, or get notification wrist on your wrist even while you are out on a run and your phone is getting charged at home.

The latest Fitbit Sense also has Wi-Fi connectivity but that is a proper health watch and is very expensive.

Two Minute Review:

Fossil Sports and Ticwatch E2 have a lot in common. Both run Wear OS, have almost similar hardware and they both have a Voice Assistant. However Fossil Sports tends to be more expensive as it offers contactless payment, has one or two more sensors, and above all, features a fast processor: Snapdragon Wear 3100.

You can stream songs on it, can make calls and send texts, (when both your watch and the phone is connected to the internet, plus the watch is connected to Bluetooth headsets), and can even surf the internet on it. (Many third-party browsers are available for Wear OS)

As we have also included Fossil Gen 5 in this list, you can skip this one to get your hands on a more powerful smartwatch.

Suunto 7

Suunto 7

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: No
  • Case: 45 mm
  • OS: Google Wear OS
  • Storage and RAM: 4.5 GB and 1GB
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100
  • Display:  1.39-inch AMOLED display, 454 x 454 pixels
  • Always On Display: Yes
  • Battery: 48 hours
  • Water and dust resistance:  5 ATM
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth and Wifi
  • GPS: Yes + GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, BEIDOU
  • NFC: Yes (Google Pay)
  • Voice Assistant: Yes (Google Assistant)
  • Sensors:   Optical Heart Rate,  barometric altimeter, Accelerometer

Two Minute Review:

Suunto 7 is a multi-sports watch that demands top dollars for features it offers. For good or for bad, it comes with Wear OS so you would be able to fully exploit its Wi-Fi connectivity and NFC feature.

It has top-notch GPS connectivity, can get important notifications right on your wrists via Wi-Fi, and above all, can make payments on the go via Google pay, and above all, can stream music on Spotify.

What else do you need? For regular runners and gym-goers, this can turn out to be a trustworthy partner replacing the need of carrying the phone around.

There is one major caveat though. It cannot connect to external sensors which may disappoint serious athletes.

Fossil Gen 5

Fossil Gen 5

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: Yes (By Verizon Wireless)
  • Size: 45 mm Version
  • Weight: 100 g (3.52 oz)
  • OS: Wear OS by Google
  • Display: 1.28″ AMOLED / 416 x 416 / 328ppi /
  • Always-on Display: Yes
  • Storage & Memory:  1GB , 8GB
  • Processor: Snapdragon Wear 3100
  • Battery Life: Up to 18 hours
  • GPS: Yes
  • NFC: Yes (Google Pay)
  • Water Resistance: 3 ATM
  • Voice Assistant: Yes (Google Assistant)
  • Connectivity: Wifi, Bluetooth
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Altimeter, Ambient light, Compass, Gyroscope, Off-body IR, PPG heart rate, GPS

Two Minute Review:

Fossil Gen 5 has more storage and memory than Sports, and the Wi-Fi edition is usually on sale as the company has recently released the LTE version.

The smartwatch has Wear OS so you get to enjoy all the bells and whistles. While practical apps like a decent music player, Spotify, and Dexcom are common across all major platforms, Wear OS (Or Android Wear) has the advantage of thousands of third-party apps on the platform.

The watch can store music or stream it directly on the wrist. It can surf the internet over a Wifi connection, and can make calls as it has a microphone and a speaker on board.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: Yes
  • Size: 45 mm Version
  • Weight: 53.8 g (1.9 oz)
  • OS: Tizen by Samsung
  • Display: 1.4″ AMOLED / 360 x 360 / 328ppi
  • Always-on Display: Yes
  • Storage & Memory:  8GB , 1 GB
  • Battery Life: 20-50 hours
  • GPS: Yes with  A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS
  • NFC: Yes (Samsung Pay)
  • Voice Assistant: Yes, Bixby
  • Water Resistance: 5 ATM  IP68 + Military Grade 8100
  • Sensors: Heart rate, Electrocardiogram, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Barometer, Ambient light, altimeter, SpO2

Two Minute Review:

Galaxy Watch 3 has almost all the features in common with the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. The price difference is due to high storage capacity and large real estate in the former.

When at home, you can use the Wi-Fi to stream music, update apps and control IoT devices. When outside, you could use it to get all your important notifications on the wrists and to respond to them.

As it is slightly bigger and considerably chunky than Active 2, it is suitable for a large wrist. And the large size also enhances its battery performance.

  • Battery Life: 20-50 hours
  • GPS: Yes with  A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS
  • NFC: Yes
  • Voice Assistant: Yes, Bixby
  • Water Resistance: 5 ATM  IP68 + Military Grade 8100
  • Sensors: Heart rate, Electrocardiogram, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Barometer, Ambient light, altimeter

Two Minute Review:

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 comes in two variants WiFi and LTE, but even if you buy the latter, this watch offers the best value for the money.

In both editions, you can surf the internet via a built-in browser. This watch would be an excellent sports companion as well as a health device on your wrist.

Samsung’s TizenOS don’t have as huge a developer community as Google’s Wear OS or Apple Watch OS, so there would be limited apps available on it.

With a built-in speaker and microphone, you can make calls without your phone nearby. Also, the Wi-Fi connection comes very handily when you are outdoors, exercising in the gym, at your pals home, or at the office.

  • Strap Material: silicone (Other bands are also available)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wifi, 4G LTE

Two Minute Review:

Ticwatch Pro 4G offers powerful Wifi connectivity so much so that you can even watch videos on youtube. But it needs not to rely on a Wi-Fi function only as it does have 4G LTE connectivity as an alternative.

This one is a true standalone watch. You can leave your phone at home and still would be able to be on top of all important notifications. LTE functions can be used for calling and texting, whereas you can use your office or gym WiFi for music streaming or web surfing.

The smartwatch offers a decent range of fitness features and is very rugged. If you are looking for a gym companion that can stream music over Wi-Fi, this one is just the right fit for you.

Ticwatch Pro 4G has a large battery which enables it to last more than 3 hours on a single charge with mixed usage. However, you can significantly enhance the battery life in essential mode.

Apple Watch Series 6

Apple Watch Series 6

Key Features & Specs:

  • eSIM: Yes

  • Display: Sapphire crystal glass | 448 x 368 pixels (~326 PPI density) | 1.78 inches, 10.0 cm2 (~60.0% screen-to-body ratio) | Retina LTPO OLED, 1000 nits (peak)
  • Always-on Display: Yes
  • Storage & Memory: 32 GB and 1 GB
  • Battery Life: Up to 18 h (mixed usage)
  • GPS: Yes, with A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, QZSS
  • NFC: Yes, Apple Pay (Coverage: 41 countries worldwide)
  • Water Resistance: 50m water resistant
  • Voice Assistant: Yes, Siri
  • Fall Detection: Yes
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth and Wifi
  • Sensors: Blood oxygen sensor, Electrical heart sensor, Third-generation optical heart sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient light sensor

Two Minute Review:

With Apple Watch Series 6, and its immediate predecessors, you don’t need your phone around to send and receive messages using iMessage, Checking the Weather, streaming music, listening to the radio, or a ton of other activities.

Apple Watch makes the best use of Wi-Fi connectivity as it allows you to listen to audiobooks on Audible, a feature only available on Apple watches. You can stream music on Apple Music, can make contactless payment via Apple pay, and update all your Apps via Wi-Fi connection. You can also surf the internet, or even stream videos as smoothly as your Wi-Fi connection allows you.

Apple Watch Series 6 drains the battery fast over Wifi but not as fast as when LTE mode is enabled. However, there are many battery-saving options out there. When it comes to Apple watches, you can’t expect more than a 30 hours of battery performance no matter how cautiously you use the watch.

Smartwatches With WiFi: FAQs

What Is The Best Android Watch With WiFi And 4G?

Ticwatch Pro 4G. It has both wifi and cellular connectivity, but more than that, a top-of-the-line processor to fully harness the former two. The watch is so powerful, you can stream Youtube Videos on it as smoothly as your Wi-Fi connection would allow.

Bluetooth Vs WiFi in a smartwatch? (Apple, Samsung, and WearOS watches)

Initially, when WiFi was introduced in smartwatches it was meant to expand the connectivity range and to sync data fast. Bluetooth was the battery efficient option whereas WiFi had the advantage of wide range and Fast Speed.

It was very convenient as you can leave your phone at a spot (for charging or for whatever reason) and can still get important notifications even if you were out of Bluetooth range. (but of course in WiFi range)

Later, smartwatch manufacturing companies took it to the next level. They exempted the smartwatch from the need of being at the same place. The latest smartwatches can send and receive data even if your phone’s out of range.

The watch just has to be somewhere with an accessible Wi-Fi network — one that’s either public or to which you’re already authorized (i.e. you’ve previously typed in its password and connected to it from your phone) — and your phone has to be connected to Wi-Fi network, or has to have an active data connection of its own.

The two devices don’t have to be on the same network or in the same physical location; your phone could be sitting at your home and you could be miles away in a building with Wi-Fi access.

As long as the phone is getting some sort of data—be it via Wi-Fi or a mobile data network—and the watch is in a place with an accessible Wi-Fi network, you’re good to go.

Exactly at that moment, Wi-Fi became more important than Bluetooth in a smartwatch though the latter is still relevant for its battery economy.

Wi-Fi or 4G in a Smartwatch, Which One Is Better?

A smartwatch with cellular connectivity would almost always have Wi-Fi connectivity and not the other way around. Cellular connectivity on a smartwatch allows you a true standalone experience, but it drains the battery life like a monster. Wi-Fi is more convenient to Use.
