How to get Amazon Alexa on Apple Watch Series 7?

If you’re an Amazon Echo user, there’s a good chance you’re also using Alexa, the digital assistant that comes with it.

But what if you want to use Alexa on your latest Apple Watch Series 7? We all know what Cupertino-based tech giant feels about third-party apps especially when they compete with its native apps.

Apple has shown flexibility in the past when it featured ‘Audible‘, Amazon’s app for audiobooks and podcasts, on its play store. However, that was the end of it. Amazon’s voice assistant aka Alexa never made it to the Apple Store, and might not be coming to Apple Watch anytime soon.

There is no reason to lose hope. There is a way, actually a workaround, and we’re going to show you how. Just keep in mind there are some limitations, as with most things related to third-party apps on the Apple Watch. Read on to find out how to get Alexa on Apple Watch Series 7.

Using Alexa on Apple Watch Series 7:

Though we are explaining the process for only the latest Apple Watch Series 7, this workaround also works for

  1. Apple Watch Series 6
  2. Apple Watch Series 5
  3. Apple Watch Series 4
  4. Apple Watch Series 3
  5. Apple Watch Series SE

Step 1:

You will have to install a third-party app dubbed Voice IN A Can. The link will take you straight to the app, but keep in mind you will have to pay almost $2.

Step 2:

Once the app is installed, open the app and sync your Amazon Alexa account following the on-screen instructions. The app would ask you to fill in the details like login ID or password to your Alexa Account.

Step 3:

Once the authentication is complete, tap the ready icon inside the app to access the Amazon Assistant.

Step 4:

You can prompt Alexa by creating a shortcut for it. Follow these sub-steps in the given order to do so.

Open Shortcuts>>Add New (‘+’)>>Create New Action>> Tap on Open App>>Choose ‘Voice in a Can’>>Rename the action as ‘Alexa’

Now all you have to do is to prompt Siri and then ask for Alexa.

You will apply the above-mentioned scripting on the iPhone connected to the Apple Watch Series 7.

Capabilities and Limitations of ‘Voice in a Can’:

Unlike most apps, Voice in a Can doesn’t need your Apple Watch to be connected to the iPhone to work. You can get the most out of this app when your Apple Watch is connected to Wi-Fi or LTE.

There are some things you can’t do:

  • play music
  • make calls
  • listen to podcasts or audiobooks
  • make announcements.

You don’t have to say ‘Alexa’ at the start. Just say the command as soon as you open the app, and it will follow your voice.

The app needs permissions on your Alexa account and on your iPhone to give you accurate time and location details when demanded.

To continue using the app without any problems, you’ll need to raise the app timeout duration. The smartwatch disconnects from the personal assistant whenever the screen turns off.

As far as the benefits of the apps are concerned, there is one that surpasses all its limitations. It would enable you to control any Alexa-enabled or Amazon IoT devices at home. So you can turn your lights on/off, adjust your smart thermostat or even lock your front door.

Conclusion:

To get Alexa on the Apple Watch Series 7, all you have to do is install a third-party app dubbed Voice IN A Can and sync your Amazon Alexa account with it.

However, there are some limitations to using this app, like not being able to play music or make calls, but one benefit is that you can control any Alexa-enabled device at home.
